Veronika Faktorová is a literature historian and researcher at the Institute of Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences in the Department of 19th Century Literature, which she believes is not a boring subject in compulsory school education, but an exciting field of research that provides an understanding of the roots of the fundamental cultural ideas and concepts of our modern society.
Recently, she has been focusing on environmental studies of literature with an emphasis on the history of nature and landscape as an aesthetic and cultural construct, and she also deals with literary representations of places through which this construct is applied (the Krkonoše Mountains, Šumava, etc.). She has published studies on this topic both independently and in collaboration with Karel Stibral and Michal Hořejší. Together with them, she is now focusing on researching the history of the concept and notion of wilderness in the Czech Republic.
