Eliška Švarná’s research activity has long been connected with the regional history of South Bohemia. In the past, she focused on the economic, social, and cultural aspects of the Czech-German coexistence in Budweis at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
In her current research, she focuses on technical interventions into the landscape, and the transformation of the environment (not only) in the South Bohemian region during the 20th century. She deals mainly with the period approaches to managing water resources, planning and building large water constructions and their reflections in the ideological, political, socio-economic, and cultural spheres.
She is interested in the fields of environmental history, environmental humanities, and blue humanities.
