International Workshop of the Research Group for Environmental Humanities and Contemporary History

The Research Group for Environmental Humanities and Contemporary History at the Institute of History, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe (GWZO) in Leipzig, is organizing an international workshop dedicated to current research in the field of environmental humanities.

The meeting will bring together researchers from various institutions, who will present their current projects and discuss new methodological and theoretical approaches. The topics of the contributions range from the history of human-animal relations in the context of the Russian war against Ukraine, through questions of historicization and sustainability, to the transformation of the Šumava border region as a result of the construction of the Iron Curtain.

The workshop is part of Humanities Week, which is taking place at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University.
